Here are answers to some of your most common questions!

Where is your store?

Kallisti Quilts sells online and at the trade shows listed on the Events page, but you can also shop in person at my small studio in Waterloo by appointment.  To make an appointment, email me with your preferred date and time.

What do you charge for shipping within Canada?

Kallisti Quilts ships by Canada Post using the most inexpensive possible delivery method.  For small orders of sashiko supplies or fabrics totalling less than 2 metres, your order will default to Oversized Lettermail, which is cheap (up to $6.50 CAD + HST) but slow, unless you choose the faster, more expensive Expedited method (starting at $13.50 CAD + HST).  All other orders will default to Expedited, which includes tracking and insurance.  You will see all applicable shipping options during Check Out.

I am in the Waterloo area.  Can I pick up my order and save the shipping cost?

Yes, Kallisti Quilts has always offered porch pick up and now the website offers Local Pickup option.  Please enter your preferred pickup date in the Notes field during Check Out and your order will be waiting for you.

When will I receive my order?

Kallisti Quilts ships orders within 48 hours.

Within Canada - Oversized Lettermail takes up to 2 weeks to arrive, while Expedited takes 1 to 3 business days within Ontario and to Quebec and a few days longer to other provinces.

To the US - Oversized Lettermail takes up to 2 weeks to arrive.  Small Packet and Tracked Packet takes up to 2 weeks to arrive, while Expedited takes approximately one week.

To Europe - Oversized Lettermail takes up to 3 weeks to arrive. Small Packet (Surface) takes 4 to 6 weeks, while Small Packet (Air) and Tracked Packet (Air) take 2 to 3 weeks.

To Australia and New Zealand - Oversized Lettermail takes up to 4 weeks to arrive.  Small Packet (Surface) takes 8 to 12 weeks to arrive, while Small Packet (Air) and Tracked Packet take up to 6 weeks.

*** Please note that, during this time, all mail is taking approximately twice as long to be delivered.  Your order is not lost, just being delivered later than expected! ***

Can I track my order?

Yes, if you paid for a shipping service that offers tracking, you will receive a tracking number with your shipping notification.  If you opted not to pay for a trackable service, you do not have a tracking number and your order cannot be tracked.  Not to worry though, shipping without tracking is not risky.  Kallisti Quilts has shipped 1000s of orders without tracking and not a single parcel has gone missing yet!

I can't find the fabric I'm looking for . . .

Kallisti Quilts has divided fabrics into very distinct categories, but if, after clicking around, you still can't find the fabric you're looking for, try the Search field located in the top left corner of every page.  You can enter descriptive words, such as a colour (e.g. "pink" or "yarn dye").  If you still can't find it, the fabric may be sold out.  Please email me a photo to find out.

I'm looking for that Japanese hand stitching stuff . . . What's it called?

Sashiko.  Not sashimi, which is a delicious category of Japanese food, the "sashiko" autocorrect on your device and the most commonly searched for product on my website!  Sashiko.

I am interested in sashiko.  Where do I start?

Start by browsing through the Sashiko pages.  First, pick a panel or a fat quarter that you like.  Next, decide between thick and thin thread.  For comparison, the Dragonflies on Grid (#240) panel is stitched with thin thread while Maple Leaves (#214) is stitched with thick thread.  You will need 15 to 20 metres of thread per panel, so one small skein is enough, except for the half yard panels which require one bulk skein.  Please note that thread thickness and colour are personal preferences.  Finally, choose any needle pack.  All needle packs include some elongated eye needles for thick thread, so any pack will do.

What is the scale of the fabric swatches?

Individual swatches show approximately 5.5" to 6.5" square of fabric.  All photos are taken with the same camera settings at the same optimal time of day and light level, so the scale, shading and tone of one fabric swatch is relative to every other swatch.  Kallisti Quilts spends a LOT of time shooting and editing fabric photos to give you the best possible online shopping experience.  Please email me if you need more photos of a fabric or a comparison shot of several fabrics.

Do you do custom orders?

Yes, Kallisti Quilts does custom orders for fabrics, quilt kits and finished quilts of all sizes.  If you need help selecting fabrics or calculating yardage for a project, email me the details.  I'm happy to help!
